Prague zoo doesn’t feature on the lists of many tourists, nor even some expats – but it should be as Prague Zoo regularly wins awards for being one of the top zoos in the world.

The Prague zoological garden first opened in 1931 and covers an area of 60 hectares in the Prague borough of Troja.

It really is a lovely zoo and the animals have plenty of space, inluding a large African savanna, where giraffe, antelope, zebra and ostrich roam together.

The easiest public transport route is to take a no. 112 bus from Nádraží Holešovice metro station. But there are other routes, including a seasonal boat service.

You can walk around the zoo using Google Maps.
