U Kroka is on a quiet street beneath Vyšehrad – nearest tram stop is Výtoň. Vyšehrad was founded by Duke Krok – hence the restaurant name. The food is good and the beer and wine are reasonably priced.

There is a large outdoor terrace – still open at 9pm on a warm Monday evening in October.

Inside is a modern bar/restaurant. It wasn’t busy, but there were three staff on duty.

The waitress was friendly. A 0.3l dark Kozel beer was 35 Kč. A 0.15l glass of Merlot was especially good value at 55 Kč – and was very drinkable, A carafe of tap water was 35 Kč and was refilled for free.

We chose the grilled duck breast with sweet potato confit, parsnip and apple purée 325 Kč. Sadly, our waitress forgot to put the order into the kitchen until we reminded her 40 minutes later – she was very apologetic. The dish was worth the wait.

I’d definitely return to U Kroka, despite the mistake with the order and would recommend you pay a visit.
