Walk into any Irish pub in Prague on a Saturday night and you’ll see it: a tray of neon-brown shots being dropped into Red Bull, cheered on by a stag group in funny costumes.

Jägerbombs are definitely a cash cow for some pubs, especially where you don’t receive a full can of Red Bull, or that is substituted for some cheaper alternative. Worse still, this drink isn’t good for you.
Jägermeister
35% alcohol by volume (ABV).
Thick, syrupy, herbal liqueur loaded with sugar (15 g about 3.5 teaspoons).
One shot (44 ml) = ~100 calories.
Sugar and alcohol equals fast buzz, fast crash.

Red Bull
High in caffeine (about 80 mg per can).
High sugar content (27 g about 6–7 teaspoons).
Artificial additives (taurine, B-vitamins, carbonation).
Masks the sedative effect of alcohol, so you feel ‘alert drunk’.

Jägerbomb
Alcohol and caffeine combo: alcohol slows you down, caffeine speeds you up. Result equals body confusion, more drinking, higher risk of overdoing it.
Dehydration: both alcohol and caffeine are diuretics, so you’re draining fluids fast.
Heart stress: mixing stimulants with depressants equals increased heart rate, irregular rhythm risk (esp. if several are slammed in one night).
Crash and hangover: the sugar high, caffeine come-down, and booze – brutal next morning.
Jägermeister sells mystery, Red Bull sells wings — together they sell stag groups the illusion of a party ritual. Pubs know it, price it high and cash in on the spectacle of drunks dropping shots into syrup.
Let’s just say natural selection has a sense of humour.
Alternatives
For the half the price of a Jägerbomb, you could have had a clean, no-nonsense tequila shot. There’s still a ritual – salt, shot, lime – but tequila has no sugar and zero additives, except maybe the worm!
Or, just choose a good whisky – again no sugar and zero additives.
