Opened in 1914, Café Imperial delivers great food in a unique space. The interior is in the style of a grand café, with high ceilings, impressive pillars and ceramic tile mosaics.
In the 1920s and 1930s, Café Imperial became a fashionable meeting place for Prague’s elite, including writers, politicians and artists.
During the Communist era (1948 – 1989), the grandeur of Café Imperial faded, the quality of service and food declined and it became a typical state-run restaurant. Despite this, the café’s beautiful ceramic decorations remained mostly intact, preserving its historical charm.
Czech celebrity chef, Zdeněk Pohlreich, took over Café Imperial in 2007. He modernized the menu while maintaining the essence of traditional Czech cuisine, focusing on high-quality ingredients and excellent service. Zdeněk Pohlreich is famous for the TV show ‘Ano, šéfe!’ (Yes, Chef!), which is similar to Gordon Ramsay’s ‘Kitchen Nightmares’.
