Soul Love is a newly-opened Japanese restaurant and bar within the Hotel Jalta on Václavské náměstí, The ultra-stylish decor is an Instagrammers dream. We went to try the lunch menu.
We were greeted by a beautiful hostess.
The interior space is extravagant.
The circular bar is at the rear and looks like a perfect place for night-time cocktails.
The lunch menu provides an opportunity to visit and sample the food, without breaking the bank. On the day of our visit, main courses ranged from 178 Kč to 328 Kč. A bottle of Matuška California beer was 120 Kč.
All the staff were friendly and professional.
Edamame (young green soybeans) were delivered to our table. You’re supposed to remove the beans from the pod – but apart from some strange glances, from your Japanese friends, you’ll survive if you eat the whole thing like a mangetout! The Japanese are expert at removing the beans using their teeth – I just use my fingers.
We started with a selection of lovely bite-sized maki sushi. The ginger was the only part that wasn’t to my taste, but that’s probably because I’m used to the version in my local Japanese restaurant.
For a main course, we chose a Chicken Katsu Curry (238 Kč). This is a combination of a katsu (a cutlet coated with flaky japanese panko) and a curry with rice. What was historically two courses is now a classic Japanese dish.
This was a delicious dish and a very generous portion of katsu.
The macha ice cream was served on ice. I think this would work even better if the ice was made from macha tea.
We really enjoyed our lunch at Soul Love. The evening menu prices may raise some eyebrows from Czechs visiting from outside of Prague, but most aren’t likely to be discouraged when looking for stylish fine dining. The rear bar looks like a perfect evening location for the young and beautiful.
