There are two Bar and Books locations in Prague. Both have a cigar lounge. Both are excellent. I previously wrote about Bar and Books Týnská so it’s only fair that I write about Bar and Books Mánesova.
Once inside, the place has a colonial club atmosphere similar to the Týnská location. I think the Mánesova location has a more relaxed feel, mostly because it attracts more locals and less tourists.
The main bar is non smoking. You need to walk past the bar to the cigar lounge in the back of the bar.
Don’t ask me why cigar smoking is allowed – I can only guess that it is because the cigar lounge is a private room and that changes the rules.
The colonial club theme continues to improve in the cigar lounge – much larger than the one in Týnská.
Everything is set up for cigar aficionados; cigar cutters, a candle, cedar sticks, with a glass in which to extinguish them and heavy glass cigar ashtrays. The picture below was taken in Bar and Books Týnská but it’s the same here.
Drinks are priced as you would expect for the location and style. Water is served in a heavy crystal decanter. The service is impeccable.
The music is good, but never too loud. The main bar also has live music at weekends – you should book a table.
The regular Friday night act is called The Transatlantic Lounge Collective and they are good.
And just like Bar and Books Týnská a selection of Bond movies play silently – yesterday evening was the Pierce Brosnan classic ‘The World Is Not Enough’. One of my favourite Bond movies.
Bar and Books is a perfect post-lockdown choice – something that wasn’t possible for the last several weeks. Even if you aren’t a cigar smoker, the main bar is an impressive place for a cocktail. Bond would enjoy a drink here.
