Saint Valentine’s Day isn’t a Czech tradition – the ‘Czech Day of Love’ or ‘Svátek zamilovaných’ is celebrated on May 1st. Prague lovers tend to visit Petřín hill and kiss under a blooming cherry tree. Legend has it that a girl who is not kissed will wither and die within twelve months.

February 14th (a Friday this year) is the name day for Valentýn (the feast day of Svatý Valentin) – Western influences mean that there will be plenty of couples celebrating Valentine’s Day this year in Prague. Here are some ideas..

It’s hard to find a good florist. I don’t want to buy flowers only to find them dead after a few days. Luckily I found a new shop called ‘Cool Flowers‘ in Vinohrady that has friendly staff and great flowers that last. Review here.
